Loss of Sensitive Data on
Missing Laptops
An
astonishing 81% of companies and
government agencies report having
lost or misplaced one or more
laptops containing sensitive
information in the past year.
That finding comes from a new survey
from data-protection firm Vontu.
The study concludes that a major
reason for corporate data security
breaches is that many organizations
simply don't know where their
sensitive information resides.

Risk Than Burglary
E-Crime Surpasses Burglary in
Survey of Perceived Risks
Fear of Internet crime is
rising as more people shop
and bank online, a new
report warns.
And that fear is not
unwarranted; while
traditional crimes such as
car theft and mugging are
still more likely than
cybercrime, the latter is
fast-growing. Experts say
the main reason is
risk/reward ratio: crooks
have a knack for figuring
out how to steal the most
money with the least risk,
and from their point of
view, cybercrime is more
attractive.
When asked how vulnerable
they feel to various crimes,
respondents answered this

ISACA Scholarship Competition
Congratulations to the three winners
of this year's ISACA Scholarship
Competition! Each entrant was asked
to write an essay on various IT
audit, security, and control
topics. Our first place scholarship
of $2,500.00 goes to Jonathan Beam
for his essay "The Sarbanes Oxley
Act: Costly Compliance". The second
place prize of $1,500.00 goes to
Phil DeClemente for his essay "The
Positive and Negative Impacts of
Sarbanes Oxley". Third place goes
to Christiana Angstadt for her essay
"Impact of Sarbanes Oxley", for
which she will receive a $1,000.00
